In 1824 Andrew Jackson had run for president, and got the popular vote and the most electoral votes, but had not won the 133 majority electoral votes. Henry Clay was the secretary of state, so he could sway the election so his friends Adams would become president. Jackson was furrious, and the next election had won the majority vote making him the seventh president of the United States.
